301.10 // Latest From The Senate…

Breaking news from the Senate, we are hearing that substantial progress is being made in the election of a new Chief Of State after what has surely been one of the longest periods of time in which the position has been vacant. Ithorian Senator, Malucia from Borao, has been tipped to secure the position as Chief Of State after impressing with her ideas on how best to deal with the current galactic affairs as well as her mandates in stabilising the economy.

However, initial concerns were raised about her lack of military knowledge in relation to the much depleted Alliance forces since the invasion of Ascendancy space. The Ithorian senator was quick to address these concerns however, by securing both Admiral Wilkinson and Senator Asujin Tirahimo of Atrisia, as military advisors in a new look office who would oversee the rebuilding and growth of the Alliance Forces. This move came under sever scrutiny from a group of Senators who were not confident that the partnership would last, but since Senator Tirahimo took to the stage to explain what was actually discussed with the Senator Malucia, some of those voices were silenced. In a simplistic form, the two senators depicted a growth in both jobs, spending in both the public and business sector and military budget increases that would not hinder the current economic climate but admitted that it would be a slow process.

With more and more confidence being placed in these ideals, some of which are said to just be pressure to settle the matter of the Chief Of State election, an official announcement may not be a long way off.

We will be waiting to deliver the latest news from Coruscant, as soon as we have more.

298.09 // Caamas Investigated

On 296.23 we reported on the disaster that occured on Caamas. Planetary spokesperson Utor Jjji has issued the following statement:

“Our investigation has lead us to believe that this was a horrific accident. Regardless, the grounds at the epicenter of the destruction have been illegally occupied underground, and we shall seek retribution for the crimes committed against our planet. More information will be made available when uncovered.”

This has confirmed the suspicions of man-made disaster that have been spreading in the region.

Independent experts have clued that the mass destruction may have intruded on a years-old taboo on hypertech research for other means than space travel. No specific ideas were put on the table, but worries have been expressed, and it is obvious that the scientific community has been put on edge.

A spokesperson from the Bothawui planetary government released the following statement on the quickly assembled emergency fleet that has since arrived in the Cirius system:

“Caamas first great disaster, in 19 BBY, was in no small way the result of Bothan activity at the time. The suspicions of this were confirmed years after the infamous Galactic Civil War. Since then, the Caamasi and Bothan people have had a strenuous relationship at best. We hope that the aid we have made available will help strengthen our cultures relationship.”

Will Caamas seek Senate involvement? Will the Military seek to interfere? What failed mastermind is behind this disaster of the decennium? Stay tuned as we update you around the galactic clock.

297.31 // Border Incident

A disruption in the until-now relative quiet from Mandalorian space today as a transport cruiser was shot down today outside the quarantine zone. The ship was reportedly traveling within six parsecs of their territorial space, infringing on the ten parsec buffer established around their systems by Alliance forces during the cease-fire. Officials have only stated that due to the private transport’s violation of this buffer zone, they cannot seek retaliation, or view this as an act of war on the Mandalorian’s part.

The Corusca Folly, a privately registered Corellian Rt-6800 transport vessle, had a crew compliment of three and was reported to be carrying seven passengers. No survivors were found, and scans of escape pods revealed nothing more than the ship’s manifest.
For the sake of our younger audience, and in accordance with HoloNet regulation 17-R260, we will spare the graphic imagry for you. The images we have recieved are violent however, and we can assure you that this attack was as brutal as it was thorough. A full list of the passengers and crew was released to us just hours ago.

296.23 // Experiments Devestate Caamas

Disaster has struck in the Cirius System, and the tranquil planet of Caamas has once again been struck by a disaster of sentient origin. It has been reported than a yet unidentified operation used an artificial cave system as the site for a particle accelerator. The purpose for the experiments is, as of time of reporting, unclear, but the effects are being felt planet-wide.

Caamas’ surface, initially devastated in 19 BBY by the Galactic Empire, faces immediate ecological collapse through the disappearance of entire ecosystems. Representatives from Bothawui have already announced plans to dispatch relief teams to aid in the rescue and preservation of the surviving species. Acting Chief of State Admiral Wilkinson has called an emergency Senate meeting to discuss full-scale disaster relief and environmental aid.

We here at GHN express our deepest sympathies for the Camassi people, and will continue to bring you further updates on this disaster.

295.04 // Alderaanian Royal Debate Reaches Impass

Wide-ranging governmental reform on New Alderaaan has reached an impasse following fierce debate over the proposal of reintroducing a monarchy to the planet.

Once a settlement founded by survivors of Alderaan’s destruction in 0ABY, the planet, now with a population of 5 million, has seen a resurrection of old Alderaanian traditions and customs in the past decade, with the monarchy representing the pinnacle of the process. New Alderaan is currently governed by the Alderaanian Council, comprised of more than a hundred elected officials, the future of which is under heavy discussion.

The pro-monarchy movement has a significant following among the New Alderaanian population, but it remains to be decided who, if any, should sit on a New Alderaanian throne. Positioning themselves as candidates are members of the Antilles, Omas, Panteer and Organa families, each commanding a great deal of support among the people.

With the sparse numbers of survivors of Alderaan’s destruction, the legitimacy of these bloodlines has been called into question, particularly that of the Organa family whose link to the original bloodline, Leia Organa-Solo, was in fact adopted.

There is also strong support for those campaigning for an elected monarchy, similar to the former Commonwealth world of Naboo, as well as external intervention from the Galactic Alliance, though opposition to ‘outside meddling’ as it’s been called has been frowned upon.

Of note, leading members of the Panteer family have voiced opposition to GA intervention, holding that, “This is an internal affair, and an important step in re-establishing the sovereignty of Alderaan.”

It remains uncertain if and when a decision on the matter will be made, but this is an issue that the people of New Alderaan will not let go of easily. We will keep you updated as more comes in…

Now, we go over to Runson Tip with the lastest in sports…

“This is Runson Tip, reporting to you live with the GHN news team just outside the Blastech Convention Center here on Coruscant, bringing you the latest updates for this, the four-hundredth annual Galactic Series of Sabacc. I’m standing here with a literal living Corellian Sabacc legend, Getton Antillies. Getton, why don’t you tell us a little about why this event is so important?”

“Well Runson, the Galactic Series of Sabacc is turning four-hundred years old this year, and is making one hell of a comeback by doing so. For the better part of the conflict with the Ascendancy, the event was for the most part ignored, and several years, abandoned all together. Another suitable host planet was found on several occasions, but the fighting was just too much for most of the players to attend. This year we’ve opened up the field to allow for amateur, as well as professionals enter into the field.”

“Speaking of, with all the mixed levels of play, aren’t you….wait, wait, this just in, I’m receiving word that the envoy for the Ascendancy team of players has just made it through customs. There was a lot of speculation about their involvement, particularly so soon after the cease-fire, what’s your take on this Getton?”

“I don’t think the Galactic Alliance has much to worry about at the Convention Center. Ever weary of cheaters, the Board has enlisted the help of Jedi Master’s Phoe Nhix and Eolk Trenthz, to help monitor the event and alert security of any foul play.”

“There’s no concern of any foul play on behalf of the Jedi?”

“None whatsoever, the pot winnings are going towards rebuilding and resuscitation of war-torn families and worlds. There will be a winner, with a prize and notable glory attached, but the focus of this year’s event is on rebuilding relations with war-weary friends and neighbors in the simplest way possible; order up a cold ale and deal another hand of cards!”

“Well said Getton. Getton Antillies here with the Galactic Series of Sabacc, I’m Runson Tip, back to you at the GHN studios.”

Thank you Runson.

That is the lastest for today from us at the GHN, I’m Ular Tenn.
