353.09 // Republic praises Ahakista smuggling clampdown after record bust

spice copy

Ahakista, a small trading planet situated in the Outer Rim, has often been regarded as a prosperous hub for smugglers wishing to gain access to the Mid Rim and Core market safely.

It has been widely reported in recent years that the Republic have been putting immense pressure on the Ahakista government to enforce stricter checks on imports and exports coming to and from the planet in a bid to clamp down on illegal items reaching the core. It has even been rumored that the Republic are offering extensive funding to revitalise the key infrastructure of the planet if certain targets are met.

With only one major arrest in the last few years, Ahakista were recently granted new powers by the Senate which allow them to stop and search any package coming through the port.

The powers, deemed controversial at the time, have today bore fruit. The Republic is full of praise for the Ahakista Government, after word of a record bust reached the Senate.

Following an extensive sting operation, over 100kg of the narco-spice ‘Thruster Head’ was seized and the culprits detained. The man in charge of the on-going operation had this to say:

“Whilst we are of course delighted to hear that our work has been praised by the Senate, it is but a drop in the ocean when it comes the problem we face here.

I hope these arrest sends a message to those considering using Ahakista as a bridge into the Core worlds to simply think again.

We can’t say too much about the identities of the people arrested, as they are awaiting trial, but needless to say, they have been detained without bail and we are extremely confident of a successful conviction.”

352.08 // The Traitorous Imperial Lord

Imperial lord Tiberius Perator was recently apprehended by Jedi and Imperial forces on Mygeeto’s smallest moon. Lord Perator aided in the assassination of the former Emperor and served the Imperium military intellectually and financially in galactic conquest. Empress Fel moved her military against the Imperial lord and forced his leave from Mygeeto. Perator retreated to his family’s palace, turned fortress on the Mygeeto moon. Empress Fel then commenced a year long siege on Lord Perator’s ice bunker.

Unexpectedly Empress Fel’s military was met with Imperium loyalists and soldiers who assisted Tiberius Perator’s escape and continued protection of the rogue lord. The fortress was near impenetrable and had the provisions to sustain the facility for years. However, Lord Perator preemptively requested to treat with Jedi Master Cael Dan’kor, the murderer of the “One Sith’s” Dark Lord.

High Councilor Dan’kor accepted to negotiate with Lord Perator on the Empress’ behalf. The Jedi Master brought along several other Jedi as well. Jedi Knight Wrennin Vae, best known for his speech during the Great Plague; Jedi Knight Dithaal, Battlemaster of the Rannon Praxeum; Padawan(s) Karmarie Zar, Voh Phaar, Vathius Krai, and Kro’jan Touru. Little is known of what happened, but the trip resulted in Lord Perator and his son, Vexus Perator’s, capture.

Not long ago Tiberius Perator was placed before Empress Bellitrial Fel on Bastion by Cael Dan’kor. Empress Fel within the Imperial palace, before her court, stripped Tiberius of his lands, titles, and holdings, and sentenced him to death, for his treachery and lack of cooperativeness with the Jedi. His son, Vexus, was turned over to Cael Dan’kor by the Jedi’s request. There are no public statements from the Empress or Jedi Order at this time.

351.18 // Yutan agrees to take Belovian refugees

Following the conclusion of talks, officials announced today that Yutan will accept refugees from neighboring Belovia on a much larger scale than in recent cycles. The news comes in the wake of significant climate changes on Belovia which some are calling a new Ice Age, making vast areas of the planet uninhabitable.

The agreement was stalled by further research being conducted, as well as cultural hurdles. However, intervention by the Republic and other organizations has at last allowed for an agreement to be made, with significant subsidies to be donated to Yutan to aid in the relief effort.

With the news, many stranded Belovian communities are now able to move offworld, escaping below freezing temperatures, earthquakes and contaminated natural water supplies. Those in the region have called the operation a huge success, but acknowledge that there are still many more steps to be taken in the future.

351.14 // Hynah Directive reluctantly recognized by Senate

Following a statement earlier today, it was confirmed that a small but notable group of systems on the Hydian Way have officially seceded from the Republic, in a new alliance calling itself the Hynah Directive. A corresponding statement, released by the systems involved, condemned Republic indifference towards the region during the Imperium War, as well as dwindling supplies.

Though it is unprecedented for such a small number of systems to secede, the Hynah Directive joins several other independent clusters, such as the Hapes Consortium and the historic Serex-Juvex sectors. Though technically residing within Republic controlled space, the systems in the new territory are exempt from senatorial law.

With the news, many are speculating the terms of the agreement, raising concerns that the independent systems control the central section of the Hydian Way, potentially breaking trade routes between the Core and northern systems. However, the discussions have remained peaceful and many import and export bans have already been lifted in the region.

All Republic announcements have remained confident that this issue will be resolved and returned to normal before long. Many neighboring systems in the region are currently in talks to decide whether to join the Hynah Directive or remain with the Republic.

351.09 // Diplomatic talks with seceding systems fall through

If you don’t live on the Hydian Way, you’d be forgiven if today’s news comes as a surprise. With the war against the Imperium coming to an end after nearly a decade, a small group of systems on the boundary between Republic and previously Imperium territory have been threatening secession, citing Republic negligence during the conflict. Whilst a peaceful and localized movement, the close of negotiations today will most likely accelerate the process.

The Senate has issued a statement concluding that whilst the secession has not been officially recognized, it will continue to work to prevent any future breakaway, however small, in these uncertain times and promises that trade will not be affected. Despite this claim, many galactic corporations have already begun to withdraw major operations from the area.

As of yet, the group of systems have not released any formal statement, though one is expected in coming cycles.
