281.11 // Corporate Sector Remains Quiet, Futures Gain Value Despite Investor Fears

Corporate Markets

The last year and half has seen a precipitous fall in Galactic markets, with the main indices plunging nearly fifty percent in the light of consumer uncertainties and lost confidence. But in spite of recent fears of a collapse with the Ascendancy on the doorstep, a recent rebound in the futures market has restored hope for some analysts in the previously ailing Corporate Sector. Coupled with particularly good earnings — possibly bolstered by the decrease in unemployment caused by ongoing warfare in the Outer Rim — the largest of the Galactic indices has risen three and five percent during the course of the previous two trading cycles, respectively.

An analyst at Red Mynock Financial, the fourth largest mutual fund in the Sector, confidentially released the following information to Galactic Holonews:

Perhaps the single aspect that would surprise most people is that although the calamities of warfare and fears of political change may cause a negative impact on the markets, this impact is rendered negligible by the possibility for growth in small-cap stocks. While we forsee fear continuing to play a long-term role in the health of major industries, developing sectors are likely to gain a boon from recent events. Therefore the prudent investor will remain cautiously optimistic and search for the bargains in an otherwise difficult market.

281.09 // Bastion and Taris Fall, Coalition In Full Retreat

Bastion

Bastion - Ascendancy Bombardment of the Capital

Calamity in the Outer Rim.

More breaking news has reached Coruscant as we have received word that two of the largest strongholds for the Coalition have at last collapsed under the brunt of Mandalorian and Ascendancy fleets after a fierce resistance lasting the better part of a year. The final maelstrom came for both planets in the last twenty-four hours, when pockets of Coalition resistance collapsed under the weight of full out assault.

While Taris had been previously decimated by a series of orbital bombardment and invasion fleets by the Mandalorians, it was Bastion whose defense perpetually served as a reminder of the hope left alive in the hearts of citizens of Alliance and Commonwealth citizens everywhere. Bastion, heavily reenforced by legions from the Jedi Order, was able to withstand even the fiercest of enemy regiments. But reportedly engaging in one last fiery assault, the Ascendancy razed the capital, willing to sacrifice even its own men for the sake of destroying the remnants of the Coalition resistance. This act of terror cannot be overlooked in these times as we look to our enemies, wondering for what purposes they continue to wage this destructive war. The fate of the Jedi on Bastion is unknown, but initial reports of the damage are assessed to be in the trillions of credits, with at least six hundred thousand dead on the surface and three million further casualties of war.

Commander in Chief Caden Aquitenne released the following statement this evening in the light of the news.

Though Coalition fleets are now in full retreat, scrambling to take up new positions along the shifting frontier in the Outer Rim, now is a time we must call to question our loyalities and be true to our convictions. With the war even closer to home, the older amongst us remember of the one called Rishi who last brought terror to the homefront. We must not let history repeat itself once more. We must remain strong, uniting as one, all men and woman, all species and races. If we are to stand strong in the face of tyrannical, imperalistic powers, then we must remember this tonight: we are all citizens of Bastion and Taris.

More to come in the following days.

281.08 // A New Decade of Hope

In spite of the great setbacks that have befallen our Order in the last two years, including the loss of many of our brothers and sisters on Ossus, Dantooine, and Yavin IV, the Order has once again seen opportunity to expand under new, more flexible laws formed under the new session of Congress on Coruscant. Without the political opposition of the Alliance, Jedi Watchmen everywhere are now able to resume their normal duties.

In this light, it is our pleasure to announce several recent additions to the Order: Illrian Damaris, Arendur, Jenny Wrix, Ruluk Okoth, and Ethan Kase, who have joined our ranks as Jedi Initiates. Additionally Herenai Galadan and Kalo Ryfer have been transferred to Alzoc III as displaced students who managed to survive the attack on Ossus.

We hope you will extend a warm welcome to all of the these new Jedi among us, and may the Force be with them in these difficult times.

– The Jedi Council.

281.07 // Superstar Smashball Player Enlists in Coalition Army

Taris

Hazim Kisi

The Coalition’s newest recruit is in all probability the most famous to date, as star passer Hazim Kisi of the Corellian Dreadnaughts has shocked the sports world by announcing his enlistment into the Coalition Military in a press conference early this morning. Kisi, one of the greatest money earners in the history of the sport, will be entering as a base Private in the Coalition Army and will  subsequently be shipped off to to join the 627th Legion on Muunilinst within a matter of hours from the breaking of this report.

The reasons for Kisi joining the armed forces are as shocking as they are dubious, as he had never spoken of anything related to the war up to this point. Giving up millions of credits in the voiding of his contract, Kisi nevertheless appeared  jovial and excited about his decision as he commented:

I’m going out there to protect my babies. It’s time I stopped running from the railers on the other team and instead carved up some Chiss [expletive] for our freedom. For anyone who questions what made me all of a sudden come to this decision, they can shut their yaps when they know it was because of a calling. I asked myself, ‘what am I doing with my life?’ and decided I had to reach higher. It’s a challenge, but an honorable one, and I can’t wait to get out there with my brothers and sisters in uniform.

In a further showing of his enthusiasm, Kisi had his regulation haircut done right on the scene, as his trademark sideburns and heralded bangs were obliterated, if at least considerably shortened. Thousands of women from around the Galaxy have since shaved their own heads as a sign of loyalty to Kisi, according to reports.

Hazim Kisi leaves eight sons and six ex-girlfriends to support him throughout his stay in the Outer Rim, in addition to his millions of fans that will undoubtedly shout his name whenever they speak of the war and its champions.

281.05 // Espionage Still Important Player in War, Insiders Say

Anonymous insiders close to the Galactic Alliance have released minimal yet pertinent information to GHN regarding the prevalence of espionage in the context of war. According to reports, Alliance Intelligence agents have been sifting through the ranks and operations of the Coalition since the time of its militaristic reactivation, ranging from the domestic protection of the Core worlds to the embattled furies of the major warfronts. It has been claimed that the findings of the GAID have been “invaluable” in adding to the success of Coalition forces, apparently to the extent of influencing the loss and recapture of planets themselves.

Of course, where one side finds certain tactics to be useful for their own devises, it is likely that the other has employed the same strategy as well. Dozens of Ascendancy agents have been taken into custody since the war’s inception, though that is apparently simply the lightning rod of the skyscraper, as it has been estimated that hundreds of enemy agents are operation within territories protected by the Coalition. Even more intriguing is the heavy speculation that former GAID agents have defected to the Ascendancy or become triple agents, something that the GAID is surely keen on correcting.

While the works of undercover agents are not often reported, and for good reason, it is important to take note of the effects of their undertakings in war. As the brave men and women of the Coalition sacrifice themselves in shining armor, the shady specters of the GAID pave the way for aiding those troops and saving lives– something for which families with a member in service can truly be thankful.
