276.15 // New Centralization of Commonwealth Popular, Support of Wealth Redistribution Debated

After cyclic-long talks amongst the populace brought its leaders to Bespin’s government headquarters on Cloud City earlier today, the Parliament of the Commonwealth came to an important decision to centralize their government by sponsoring one capital system as opposed to sharing the title amongst five. With parliamentarians representing all systems in the North and South, the decision was made to name Naboo as the sole capital of the Commonwealth. Surging past the two-thirds majority required for such a large amendment with 73% of the vote, work is already underway in transitioning towards government centralization.

The decision was met with overwhelming support from citizens, including those who reside in what are now the former capital systems of Haruun Kal, Bespin, Bakura, and Katan Ahk. Electing a Prime Minister presiding over the cabinet of legislation in the form of the popular Paol Selanne, many say that the process was fantastically smooth for such radical change. However, political abrasion would not completely escape the day, as new talks of wealth redistribution divide the citizens of the Commonwealth.

276.10 // Debilitating Wars Still Impact Commonwealth

Tomorrow will mark the tenth anniversary of the terribly destructive assault on Mygeeto by the forces of the now-deceased Rishi, in which millions died within instants from heavy turbolaser fire. For many inhabitants of the planet, it will be a day of remembrance and sorrow, and while condolences will naturally be spread across the region, the attack still affects citizens today in their everyday lives. Once the strongest economic power of the Northern Commonwealth region, it has since struggled to regain that status despite multiple efforts for reascension. A lack of resources and a shallow government purse is much to blame.

Other planets in the region have failed to take up the mantle of the economic bastion, which directly affects many systems for the worse. In addition, The Commonwealth War of Secession, while further in the past, still looms over poorer planets such as Ord Janon and Bimmiel, where populations have still not regained their former luster. There are few systems in the region that can presently be considered as successful as they were thirty years ago.

With the more civilly-secure Commonwealth planets in the south of the Galaxy in a state of complacency, it looks like the recovery of its more unfortunate systems still has a long way to go. This has been an update from Galactic HoloNews, keeping the Galaxy informed one word at a time.

276.05 // Critically Acclaimed Documentary Shines Light on Jedi Life

Critics from around the Galaxy left the Corellian Film Festival yesterday with great applause after bearing witness to filmmaker Del Drama’s enlightening documentary The Enigmatic Jedi: Insight into the Lives of Our Cloaked Guardians. After over 20 years of filming the lives of Jedi from multiple institutions, many spoke of the compilation as “groundbreaking” and “incredibly insightful”, among multitudes of other high praise. Here is a sample of quotes from more well-known and high-profile critics:

I never knew the Jedi Order outside of the history books, but after seeing this I feel like bringing my own equipment and filming for even more! — Vik Donovo

Incredibly insightful. The heroic mysticism of the Jedi we know went hand-in-hand with lies, corruption, and arrogance. This proves that supporters and detractors alike of the Jedi Order were correct in their own assumptions. — Regor Trebe

Perceptions will be altered as we are reminded of the people behind the veil of generality. — Ada Kerr

276.02 // Recent Outlooks Positive for Dorin

As a new year sees refreshed beginnings and possible resolutions for many inhabitants of the Galaxy, so too may Dorin turn the page on one of the darker parts of its recent history. Though it has been less than a standard year since the devastation brought by ravaging dust storms sped through the capital of Dor’shan and other outlying cities, relief efforts have proven to be more successful than previously estimated. With ample funding sent from Coruscant and tiresome efforts being donated from many volunteers throughout the Galaxy, thousands of citizens have returned home, including of course the de-placed native sons and daughters of Dorin.

In particular, one man has been famously praised for his altruism throughout the trying period in the form of Baran Do Sage and former Jedi Knight Ergo Stomi. Immediately after the storms ceased their howling, Stomi opened his personal estate to over 20 individuals who lost their homes in the wreckage. Sharing the attention from his duties as a member of the old sect, as well as the responsibilities of a husband and father, the residents depended greatly upon him and his humble funds for the most basic of needs. Working hard throughout the day in order to keep all parties content in their living, Stomi gained much acclaim and admiration for his dedication. After Galactic HoloNews gained knowledge of this from the local media, I was sent to meet for a brief interview with Mister Stomi. Here are the best parts from our conversation:

275.27 // Aquitenne Approval Ratings Continue to Hover High

Caden Aquitenne, the recently-elected Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance, averaged a 63% job approval rating from his fellow citizens in the most recent cyclic poll. His recent approval ratings, based on HoloNews tracking, have shown a high degree of stability, with the cyclic averages ranging between 59% and 65% since his election.

Citizens cite the current economic state of the Federation as “greatly influencing” their perceptions of the current administration, closely followed by the positive character analysis made by supporters and detractors alike. Aquitenne falls short in one major area of polling  which is the field of executive experience. However, that will undoubtedly change as the years continue to pass.

While Aquitenne has enjoyed his success, he should be wary of his center-right agenda. Little change in policy and a complacency from the strong economy ultimately hinders a progressive ascension for the future, which has been the clamor of the current minority in the Senate. For now however, there is no denying the positive following Aquitenne possesses among the politically ill-informed masses.
