351.04 // Belovia on brink of Ice Age

belovia

What scientists have been speculating for centuries may finally be coming true on the planet of Belovia, Expansion Region. Whilst the climate and topography has been changing for a significant number of years, new research from a variety of different stations indicates that Belovia is on the tipping point of entering an Ice Age.

Although the Belovians and the permanently established offworld citizens have been dealing with below freezing temperatures for generations, an Ice Age would render the planet near uninhabitable, as thick ice sheets spread across the terrain and many bodies of water.

With the news, many communities are making the tough decision to relocate to the equator or leave Belovia entirely. In a session earlier this cycle, the Senate agreed to send Republic military personnel and specialists to Belovia to assist the local populations, as well as conduct further research.

As of yet, scientific reports cannot agree on how long the Ice Age would last, or even what impact it would leave.

350.31 // New information uncovered about Huein assassination

Just a few cycles after the death of Senator Huein, new evidence has come to light, suggesting that the incident with extremist group Kijinx was more than a simple kidnapping and hostage situation.

The brother of recently named Kijinx member Yulin Carren, Alisha Carrin, turned a datapad recovered from Yulin’s former place of residence over to local law enforcement. The evidence on the device suggests that Yulin and Senator Huein knew each other before the kidnapping event. They had been friends for a long period of time, meeting at one of Huein’s conferences where Yulin was an aide.

From there they devised a plot in order to make a bounty of credits, insinuating that Senator Huein was not the man that Corellia believed him to be. Instead, Huein used his position as a tool of misjustice and personal gain for years. The final ‘heist’ was to have Huein pose as a captive of Kijinx, while Yulin led the operation of extortion of the authorities on Corellia.

It has been confirmed that none of the Kijinx members aside from Yulin himself were in on the deal that he and Huein struck. Speculations suggests that the other members genuinely believed in the extreme resistance and revolutionary movement. Due to the unnatural circumstances of this case, Alisha has decided to donate all former possessions of Yulin to a local charity in order to help repay the travesty that his brother had made.

Elections will soon be held to elect a new senator in place of Huein, may they represent Corellia far better than Huein ever did.

350.26 // Sting Operation on Kijinx; Corellia in Mourning

In a sudden turn of events, G.R.I.D has announced that they led a coalition of Republic Navy forces, as well as local security and law enforcement forces, in a sting operation on the now infamous Kijinx. This is resounding news to the people of Corellia as G.R.I.D announces that they have struck a major blow to the only known base of operations to the extremist group. They report that their success is due to “astounding teamwork and professional skill”, as well as insider information thanks to a citizen informant reporting suspicious operations being carried out from the undisclosed location.

G.R.I.D has announced that during the sting operation they were able to seize a number of files from Kijinx as they were superiorly outmatched in number, skill and strategy. No members of the group gave themselves up peacefully, leaving no living prisoners for either G.R.I.D or local law enforcement to interrogate.

However, this comes at a cost as it has been reported that Senator Huein has been lost in the aftermath. His corpse was found several meters away from the initial shootout scene, with two blaster shots to the torso. It is suspected that the remaining Kijinx members realized their inevitable fate and shot their political prisoner as a final statement to all of Corellia.

G.R.I.D has now departed Corellia, leaving but a few agents behind to help wrap up the aftermath, though the majority of such will be left to local law enforcement. While the action has subsided, it should be starting up again soon. Positions for senator of Corellia to represent the planet in the Galactic Senate has opened and there are already several applications, one of our reporters has stated.

350.23 // Coruscant Liberated!

The Chief of State, earlier today, announced the Sith threat neutralized at a terrible cost. Medical personnel work to remedy the injured, and the relief effort is well underway. The Dark Side nexus perished, following the Dark Lord’s defeat at the hands of the Jedi. However, the area grew to be unlivable and toxic, several hours after the Dark Side anomaly halted.

Despite victory, it cost many a life to succeed. Jedi Master Alehk Thol, long standing member of the High Council, died honorably in the mission to destroy the Sith, among seven other Jedi (Jouren Arthos, Kytana Devin, Erek Ordona, Rhyssa Ya’qul, Taska Volsh, Andyr Proga, and Odala Yoan). In addition, 313 Republic servicemen and women were killed. And worst yet, an estimated amount of 456,000+ civilians, men, women, and children were destroyed by the Dark Side nexus, and many are still missing. Cael Dan’kor, Jedi Master and sole surviving Jedi from the mission, had nothing to comment.

There is to be a pyre burning, per Jedi tradition, to honor the respective Jedi. As for the Republic military men and women, including the deceased citizens of Coruscant, a ceremony will commence, hosted by the Chief of State, later this cycle.

While the evacuation has discontinued, the Coruscant Temple and its surrounding sectors, ruined and destroyed, remains as an unsettling reminder of the Sith’s atrocities. War trials are to start, adjudicated by the Republic and New Empire, with members of the Jedi Order as mediators, in the next two cycles, and will probably end late next year.

350.18 // Eerie Demands From Corellian Terrorist Group

News reports have been flooding in from infield reporters and correspondents as it is revealed that Corellian security forces have received mysterious threats from a terrorist group. The self-proclaimed group of extremist Corellian activists have named themselves as Kijinx and claim that they want to put an end to government corruption. They have revealed themselves as the perpetrators of the infamous kidnapping of Senator Huein, the seven armed men a part of their organization.

Threats have since come pouring in from this terrorist group, demanding two things: lesser politically important hostages, such as representatives of Corellia, as well as a large bounty of credits so they can, as they put it, “continue to further root out government corruption such as Senator Huein”. The group has made no further proclamations except for stating that they will not be releasing Senator Huein in the near future, if at all. Their base of operations is unknown, although it has now been confirmed by local security forces that G.R.I.D. will now be called in for reconnaissance.

Though it is ultimately unknown exactly how Kijinx will respond to higher authorities involving themselves in this dispute on Corellia, they have spoken that if should any outsider so choose to put themselves in the path and attempt to deter Kijinx, then they will show no mercy. Reports indicate that whilst it is clear that this group has some following, it is an isolated cell and not a part of a larger whole, acting independently. It is for this reason that local security forces and law enforcement has encouraged the people of Corellia to speak out against Kijinx and to come forward with any knowledge that may aid in the return of Senator Huein.
