473.12 // EXCLUSIVE: Leak Confirms Criminal Investigation into Republic Navy

CORUSCANT, 473.12 – A “sensitive criminal investigation” has been launched against several senior members of the Republic Navy over allegations of corruption, racketeering, and receiving illegal donations, a leaked government memo has revealed.
The memo was distributed to members of the Outer Rim Security Committee from the Republic’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations, a subsidiary department of the Grand Republic’s Intelligence Division (GRID).
In the memo the Bureau confirmed that they had broadened what was originally a small number of “localised” inquiries into a wider campaign against several senior figures within the Republic’s military. According to documents included in the memo, the investigation follows several claims of Republic Navy officers receiving private payments for responding to soaring demands for protection in the Outer Rim.
A spokesperson from the Republic Navy’s Liaison Office in Coruscant stated that “Corruption is an enduring disease in the Navy, one which has only accelerated following the withdrawal from the Rim. What few forces there remain functionally outside of the chain of command, open to bribes from whoever pays the most.”
A source from the Chancellor’s office told Holonews that “it could offer no comment on criminal proceedings, but holds the brave soldiers of the Republic’s military in the highest regard.”
