Biography
Tivani doesn’t remember much of her life on Sainte-Evanëflore. The name ‘Orielle’ is just an echo carved into the leather bracelet she managed to keep and a faint word bouncing about her earliest memories. She recalls fogged memories of a father who was a merchant and a trip when she had only seen three turns around Sainte-Evanëflore’s sun. Said trip ended in disaster. The merchant ship got too close to Hutt Space and in a tale as old as time, raiders hit the convoy.
Tivani’s life after that was starkly different from the lofty dreams of her childhood. She was taken from her family, with little to no knowledge of their status. Then again, the girl had her own issues to focus on afterwards. After a matter of trades and deals, Tivani wound up as a slave in a Circus that traveled throughout all of Hutt space to perform. Being so young, she managed to adapt despite the harsh conditions.
The circus specialized in acrobatic performances and animal shows, neither of which were often done humanely. Tivani’s life split between being trained as an acrobat and doing chores around the circus. The owners of the circus were, as expected, cruel and disinterested in the safety of their performers. However, many of the other performers or circus workers took pity on the young girl and often helped her out. As such, even in such poor circumstances, Tivani was able to find some joy and comfort at the circus.
From the elderly cook, she learned how to stitch. With a natural talent for sewing, Tivani often helped stitch together costumes. With what little they had, she’d use scraps of fabric to add small flowers to her outfits that reminded her of the flowers she vaguely remembered from her mother’s hair. When Tivani wasn’t stitching or helping with the cooking, she’d be trained as an acrobat for the circus. The training was harsh, and she broke a limb once or twice. During those times, she’d sit and stitch with the elderly cook while recovering.
Life in the circus was filled with ups and downs. People often came and went, with the circus often being used as a grounds for slave trades. Tivani would make and lose friends due to this, but she was never traded away from the circus. Being a ‘rarer’ species, Tivani was sought to increase the value of the exoticness of the circus as she got older. So, Tivani was shackled to the circus for life- or at least until she found a way out. Being so young, all she could do was her best to get by day to day.
There were many times when Tivani’s talent with the force peaked through her day to day life. Sometimes, when she got in trouble and had to run and hide from the ringmaster, she’d know just where to hide to avoid his gaze instinctively. Other times, during practice, the trapeze would be just a bit too far away, but it’d move just slightly to be within reach- allowing Tivani to avoid a rather nasty fall. This was often written off as keen instincts. With her species being so rare, none really knew what they were capable of- including Tivani due to her being so young when she was taken from her family. Even as the circus travelled all across Hutt Space, Tivani never saw another like her. So, Tivani’s days in the circus went onward- with little ability to ever leave. Still, she made the best of it and learned to take joy in the smallest of victories.
However, a chance to escape would present itself one day in an odd woman who visited the circus. Unbeknownst to her and the rest of the circus, this woman was a Jedi Investigator. She was investigating the circus, primarily the slave and animal trades that ran out of it. While undercover as an investor, this Jedi took notice of Tivani and her talents. Tivani also took notice of her. Something about the woman itched the young girl’s brain. After a few days, Tivani and the Jedi managed to speak every now and then. Through their talks, the woman was able to surmise that Tivani was likely a kidnaped Republic citizen. She also noted the girl’s connection to the force.
One night, the woman offered to take Tivani elsewhere- where she’d be able to possibly find her parents one day. Tivani, despite being so young, knew a good opportunity and took it. She was brought to the Duneeden Temple as a Hopeful.
