Dac

The Planet Dac (also known as Mon Cala, Mon Calamari, and Calamari) is the shared home of the Quarren and Mon Calamari species, both of which were known to have played very important roles in the downfall of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic. Dac rose to prominence during the Galactic Civil War after its native species successfully rebelled against the Galactic Empire and committed themselves to the Rebel Alliance, where the Mon Calamari utilized their shipyards and their ships to provide the Rebel Alliance with a fighting edge with ships capable of holding against the dreaded Imperial Star Destroyers.

Dac would continue to play an important role in the rising New Republic, its shipyards would be used to create new lines of vessels to support the New Republic military, coming to a point of rivaling even that of Kuat. With its rise in prominence, Dac would become the site of many battles due to its resources and shipyards. The Battle of Mon Calamari during the years of the Second Imperial Civil War almost saw the planet rendered lifeless if not for the heroics of the Galactic Alliance, Fel Empire, and the Jedi Order. The shipyards of Dac would continue to support and supply the New Republic’s successors, the Galactic Alliance, and the most recent Galactic Republic.

In relatively modern times, Dac has remained a fundamental part of the Republic military and its ship making capabilities. A branch of Jedi called Dac home between the years of 257-260 ABY before returning to Yavin. During the course of the Attrition Wars, Dac was a site of an important battle between the Galactic Coalition and the Mandalorians. The Mandalorians ultimately conquered Dac and the Galactic Coalition was forced to retreat. It was only by the end of the war with the defeat of the Mandalorian Crusade that Dac would return into the fold as a member of the newly recognized Third Galactic Republic. Since its return to the Republic, Dac has known relative peace and performs its age-old duties under the rule of the Representative Council.
