Drakon Thul
Homeworld: Karkaris
Species: Karkarodon
Biography
Born within the lightless abyssal trenches of Karkaris, Drakon was raised in The Deep Refuge, an isolated settlement hidden far beneath the ocean’s surface where sunlight had never reached. Like the others who called the abyss home, his hide bore deep earthen browns broken by muted crimson striping, coloration that blended seamlessly with the volcanic stone and shadowed waters of the deep.
Hidden from both the surface and the greater Karkarodon population, The Deep Refuge remained untouched by the passage of galactic history. Few even knew the settlement existed, and those who did rarely ventured into the crushing depths that protected it.
The settlement was founded in the aftermath of the Clone Wars by Karkarodon survivors who had become disillusioned not only with the horrors of war, but with the fear and mistrust their species had come to inspire throughout the galaxy. Seeking to leave behind a legacy of bloodshed, they descended into the abyss and built a new home where future generations would be raised to value patience over aggression, humility over pride, and strength only in the service of protecting others.
For nearly five centuries, those ideals endured. Parents passed them to their children, elders preserved the stories of the settlement’s founders, and the people of The Deep Refuge came to believe that true strength was measured not by one’s ability to inspire fear, but by the discipline to show restraint when fear would have been easier.
It was within this forgotten sanctuary that Drakon was born, unaware that the quiet philosophy surrounding him was itself the final legacy of warriors who had chosen peace over war.
Unknown to the people of The Deep Refuge, the labyrinth of volcanic caverns surrounding their home concealed the remnants of an ancient Jedi sanctuary dating back to the final centuries of the Galactic Republic. Time, tectonic shifts, and the relentless pressure of the abyss had reduced the once-proud enclave to little more than weathered stone halls and forgotten chambers, its existence fading into myth long before the settlement was founded.
Nearly five hundred years later, fragments recovered from ancient Jedi archives spoke of a lost sanctuary hidden somewhere beneath the oceans of Karkaris. Hoping to recover what knowledge remained, a Jedi expedition was dispatched to locate the forgotten site.
Following weeks of searching through the abyssal trenches, the Jedi discovered not only the long-lost sanctuary, but also the secluded people who had unknowingly safeguarded it for generations. Though cautious of outsiders, the elders of The Deep Refuge welcomed the visitors with measured hospitality after learning they sought only knowledge of the ancient ruins.
During the exploration of the sanctuary, a sudden collapse threatened both the expedition and several villagers assisting as guides. Acting on instinct rather than thought, twelve-year-old Drakon reached out through the Force, slowing the falling stone long enough for everyone to escape.
The moment lasted only seconds, yet it was unmistakable.
Among the expedition was a Jedi Watchman who immediately recognized the young Karkarodon’s connection to the Force. What the people of The Deep Refuge had long believed to be extraordinary instinct was, in truth, a gift that reached far beyond the oceans of Karkaris.
For the first time, Drakon realized the quiet voice that had guided him throughout his life was not simply the intuition of a hunter. It was the Force calling him toward a destiny his ancestors could never have imagined.
