Homeworld: Quartzite
Species: Kage
Biography
Blood and ash still stained Yda’s clothes as she sat there being tended to by the Nautolan jedi before her, her wounds stinging as he tended to them. The Kages eidetic memory was often a boon but right now for Yda it proved to be a curse. It’s like her mind was going through everything that would be gone to her, school the previous day, how she had been sitting against the stone wall of the building sat in a circle with her friends as they all worked on their homework together. Yda and her best friend Sovi would discuss how they wanted to one day travel off of Quarzite away from the war and go explore the galaxy, doodling the stars and planets as they waited for Yda’s brother to come collect her for practice; how in training she couldn’t stop her hands from shaking holding the training weapon standing opposite of her training partner, how after getting incapacitated she watched as her older brother, Rainael, took on his multiple opponents with ease as naturally as breathing.
The memories of the smell of the calming incense her mother loved to burn as her parents spoke to her about how despite being so young she’d be starting defence classes soon, some tough love about how important becoming a warrior to their family and it was demonstrated around the house, medals awarded to various family members as far back as her great grandparents; the war with the Belugans was something that affected all Kages and her family around her took great part in doing what they could to fight back even if it meant training their children from such a young age. To Yda however there’s nothing she craved more than to help in any other way than violence.
The Jedi asked her if she remembered what had happened to her, she started to fiddle with the hem of the blanket her rescuers had placed over her shoulders and she recounted the morning’s earlier troubles. The emergency sirens had gone off as she was eating breakfast at school signalling that the Belugans had managed to fight their way into the inner circle of the city, her brother had found her amidst the chaos of children running to the designated bunker locations. Rainael was going to the front in order to help the fight and Yda’s blood ran cold at the thought of losing him, he tried to get her to stay with her friends bunkered down in the school but she snuck off and followed him hoping that in some way she could help. Rainael had noticed her once they were nearing the fight and insisted that she hide in one of the buildings until he signaled that it was safe to come out and she begrudgingly agreed. She watched as he ran off towards the fight electro-sword in hand and to her horror minutes after he disappeared from her sight explosions shook the world around her, the force of them blowing open the windows and sending Yda backwards into a wall, unconsciousness taking hold of her.
“Then next thing i remember i’m here on this ship being tended to by you” She stared still at her shirt not meeting the Nautolans eyes. The Jedi would secure the bandage on her arm and give it a gentle pat before speaking up “I spoke with your parents. You’ll be coming with me back to the temple to learn the ways of the force yes yes, they think it’ll help you find your path”. Yda would nod and sniffle, wiping her nose with her sleeve as the jedi would stand and return to the cockpit.
Yda’s mind would swirl with the news of her brother and her worry that sending her off with the Jedi is her parents’ attempt at getting her over her fear of conflict in order to follow in their footsteps. She’d look out the window of the ship and her heart pangs with sadness as these were the stars she dreamed of seeing and yet they brought her no joy.
